YONA CHOCK
THE MAGIC STORYTELLER (R) 2000

Member: International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) and Hawai'i Magicians Society, Ring #185 (former president), and Society of American Magicians (SAM) and Hawai'i Assembly #89; Clowns of America International, Inc. (COAI); Clowns of Aloha (COA) (President); National Storytelling Network (NSN);, Moonlight Storytellers of Hawai'i

Yona first got involved in Magic in college when a friend taught her how to stack a deck and false shuffle, so she could discourage a room mate who was bugging her to learn to play Bridge. She continued her interest in magic as an amateur, performing for friends and her kids' school classes until they became old enough to be embarrassed about it (the kids, not the friends). She took a Montgomery Community College class in Clowning to become a Magic Clown and discovered that she could get paid for her time. Big breakthrough!

Aardvark Adventures*, her family entertainment company, was established on the East Coast and moved home to Hawai'i when her husband, Al, retired from the Foreign Service of the USDA in 1992. She began teaching Introduction to Clowning, Make Your Own Magic, Storytelling, and Balloon Sculpture through the University of Hawai'i at M_noa College of Continuing Education and Community Service, and Summer Session (now merged into the Outreach College). She also taught Make Your own Magic for Kids for the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation. She now teaches privately, both straight magic and clown magic, and performs regularly for the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation Centers and Hawai'i State Libraries, as well as at private parties and commercial promotions, as Yona Chock, The Magic Storyteller. She illustrates her stories with magic, balloon sculptures, origami, paper cutting, and puppets.

She is currently teaching Balloon Sculpture classes for Monty's World of Magic, 1270 Queen Emma, Suite 612, Honolulu, Hawai'i 96813. See web page (www.montysmagic.com) for dates.
