MONTY’S MAGIC THEATER was first conceived after a video shoot of magic performed by Monty, Yona Chock, Bryan Yoshimoto, and Bob Festa for a very small audience on Sept. 10, 2001. The Grand Opening took place Oct. 16-20, 2001 in the Queen Emma Building, with its successful run extended to Nov. 9-10. This program featured Monty, Yona, Mister “O” (Harvey Ouchi), and Bryan. Feature articles and favorable reviews appeared in both daily newspapers, the Honolulu Advertiser and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Subsequently the theater highlighted other guest performers for the 2001 holiday season, and in May 2002, Hawai’i’s “Godfather of Magic,” Jimmy Tengu Yoshida (inducted into the SAM Hall of Fame on July 15, 1998). The Great Davidio (David Brown, DDS) and Richard Kennedy joined the theater as regular volunteer performers in September 2002. Since March 1, 2003, the theater has been “on the road,” with performances at different venues. The theater is always looking for inexpensive or free venues to hold their performances “on the road.” Large stage performances, with several guest performers (Takeshi, James Lee, and others), have been held recently at the Sgt. Smith Theater, Schofield Barracks, and Farrington High School. Fund raisers for qualified organizations can also be arranged. Advisory Board: Monty, Chairman; Yona Chock, Harvey Ouchi , Dan Nakashima (Editor, The Secret News), Bryan Yoshimoto (House), Al Keali’i Chock, Bob Festa, and David Brown, DDS. |
